The 13,000-acre Callaway Gardens, opened in 1952 by Cason and Virginia Calloway, is a magnet for golf, tennis, biking, nature hiking and events such as the Harvest Festival, a bushel of fun for all ages. Also nearby is the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, where the 39th U.S. president began life in the town of Plains. On Pine Mountain, F.D. Roosevelt State Park's 10,000 acres are deeply rooted to Franklin D. Roosevelt, four times elected president. Coca-Cola Space Science Center features NASA exhibits and both planetarium and observatory.
